A Very Hong Kong Christmas

Our colleagues in London are curling up by the fire with a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, our Boston counterparts are off to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and the team in San Francisco have the Great Dickens Christmas Fair taking place in Bay Area. In Hong Kong, it’s a positively balmy 24c, the sun is shining and the skies are blue.

It’s not what you expect in the build up to Christmas, but Hong Kong is one of the best places to spend the festive period. Why? Well, for starters, it’s warm! Come Dec 1, the “silly season” officially kicks off. From Santa Claus bar crawls to Christmas carolling, tram parties to charity events, there’s always something going on to put you in the holiday spirit. Personally, my favourite thing about Christmas in Hong Kong is the eclectic mix of traditions that come from friends from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, England, China, Japan… the list is endless. Everyone has something different to offer making it a truly cosmopolitan affair.

This is what the Racepoint Group Asia team is up to on Xmas Day:

JoJo: I’m heading back to the English countryside for mulled wine, mince pies, long dog walks and good old English Christmas TV. So excited to be with my family again!

Crystal: My boyfriend and I are planning on heading to a buffet at a local restaurant - I’m trying to persuade him to go to Ocean Park, HK’s popular theme park, but he doesn’t seem too keen!

Brian: I’m off to Japan with my family for some cold weather and sushi - we love Japan and decided that it would be the best Christmas holiday destination for all of us to get together again!

Soo Jin: Kimchi here I come! I’m from Korea so I’m heading back to South Korea to spend some time with my family - think it’s going to be a little bit colder there though!

Charlotte: My family live in Spain but I’ll be in HK for Christmas year. This involves champagne breakfast on the beach, a huge Christmas feast and hitting LFK in the evening to carry on the festivities so I am not complaining!

CC: My friends and I are going Christmas carolling in Quarry Bay - there’s nothing better than singing a few festive songs to get you in the holiday spirit.
